Turkey Hunting With a Bow - What Turkey Hunters Should
Know to Avoid Ending Up With Nothing
Nowadays, a lot of hunters that participate in turkey
hunting with bow use bows that provide extraordinary
penetration. But these bows are more ideal for big animals
such as deer, antelopes, and elks. The bodies of these
animals will be greatly damaged if hit with these kinds of
bows. However, the bodies of turkeys are rather different.
So, when they got hit with such bows, they will still be
able to manage escape. That is why hunters must plan their
strategies carefully. When they go turkey hunting with
bow, they should be certain that their arrows remain in
the turkeys instead of completely passing through. In this
way, the turkeys will acquire severe internal impairment;
and therefore, allow the hunters to have better chances of
recovery.
Consequently, less bulky bows in the range of forty to
forty-five pounds are favored by plenty of hunters
engaging in turkey hunting with bow. An additional
advantage to bows like these is their ability to be held
for extended times at full draw. Oftentimes, bow hunters
have to stay at full draw for prolonged hours when waiting
for the turkeys to come nearer.
However, turkey hunters must ensure that they meet the
poundage requirements for bows in their states.
Nonetheless, huge broadheads are recommended to guarantee
the stay of arrows in the turkeys. These broadheads will
help the turkey hunters avoid any problem with recovery.
And some of the hunters even use arrow stoppers to avoid
full penetrations.
Then, other hunters that also engage in turkey hunting
with bow solder two fishhooks to the broadhead's rear.
This is efficient in keeping the arrow stuck inside the
turkey. In addition, string trackers are frequently used,
as well. They have light strings which connect to the
broadhead. And when the hunter shoots, the strings will be
released; hence, enabling the hunter to track and grab
hold of the turkey. Moreover, laser range finders may also
prove useful to turkey hunters.
They provide information on the possible distance that a
hunter's shot will go. Additionally, blinds are also
necessary for those turkey hunting with bow since bow
hunting involves more movements than shotgun hunting. So,
every means of camouflage and cover is of utmost
importance. Then again, accessories such as stools and
decoys may be brought along, as well. The stools will
provide comfort for the hunters, and the decoys will serve
as baits for the turkeys.
